Designs of Distinction® Introduces Spec-Ready Radiused Bases at KBIS 2026 [For the Builder]

Support countertops with precision-manufactured curved components, available in North American hardwoods.

Chicago, IL – Building a curved island end that is structurally sound enough to support a quartz or granite countertop is a fabrication challenge. Framing the curve, skinning it with plywood, and finishing it requires significant time and skill. Designs of Distinction® solves this with the launch of Radiused Bases—engineered structural components launching at KBIS 2026 Booth W173.

Part of the “Design without Edges” collection, these bases are designed to sit beneath the countertop, providing the necessary load-bearing support while delivering a perfect, consistent radius every time.

What It Is:

A heavy-duty curved base component available in North American hardwoods (Maple, White Oak, Walnut, etc.). It replaces complex stick-framing or other construction methods for curved island ends and vanity supports.

How To Use It/Constructability:

• Structural Support: This is a functional component. It is engineered to bear the weight of the countertop, allowing you to install curved islands without building internal skeleton frames from scratch.

• Material Match: Available in a variety of North American hardwoods (custom species available), allowing millworkers to stain the curve to perfectly match the adjacent cabinet doors and drawers.

• Versatile Install: Bases are available with a pre-cut toe kick (for uniform spacing around the island) or without a toe kick (for furniture-style installs).

• Tambour Ready: The smooth radius provides an ideal surface for applying beaded tambour or flexible paneling, creating depth and texture without the risk of substrate telegraphing.

The Designs of Distinction team says, “A functional component that supports the countertop as well as the design. It eliminates the framing headache of curved islands while offering the versatility of paint, stain, or tambour application.”
